Our RAP features six proactive approaches in helping our teachers build and sustain relationships in the classroom.

60 Second Relate Breaks

Teachers build 60 second breaks into their classes to allow for students to discover more about their peers in micro frequencies.  The teacher poses a simple, shallow, fun, easy question for the students to ask one another.  This is designed to be like a brain break, but your students are actually connecting with one another as opposed to checking out on their cellphones. *Please note the questions do not relate to content being taught.

Pulse Meters

Our emotions our colorful and we need a tool to teach our students emotional literacy. Teachers must be intentional with checking in with their students about how they are feeling, or where they are at emotionally. Relational Meters and Check-ins allow teachers to check their students emotional pulse. We provided teachers with various types of meters and check-in scales that allows teachers to gauge each students emotional needs.

90 Second Positive Spark Plan

A  Monday - Friday plan that allows for positive interactions (sparks) to take place.  It focuses on how teachers will greet students at the door as they enter, and also a quick 90 second activity for students to interact with one another in a positive manner.  For example: Motivational Monday - students pick a peer and tell them something motivational to lift them up as they prepare to tackle Monday.  Thankful Thursdays - pick a peer and write them a quick message telling them why you are thankful they are in the classroom.

2 Minute Connections

Students generate questions they are interested in asking their peers.  When there are a few extra minutes in class, the teacher and students stand up, the teacher randomly draws 1 or 2 of the questions, the students quickly answer the questions, allowing one another to learn things about their peers.  When done daily, the students are able to quickly discover many things about one another they normally wouldn't.. hopefully seeing they aren't as different as they may think they are.

The Treatment Agreement

This is a collaborative pact created between teacher and students that focuses specifically on how they will treat one another in the classroom.  The idea is to focus on how we treat one another, and not rules... it is not a rules agreement.  It focuses on how we will treat one another based on different relationships in the classroom: Student Treating Student, Student Treating Teacher, Teacher Treating Students, and Everyone Treating The Classroom.

GTKY (Get To Know You) Relationship Circles

Teachers and students sit in a circle and ask/answer questions in order to get to know one another. The goal is for the teacher to learn something about the students, students learn something about teacher, and students learn something about each other.
